Abstract: The construction of identity is a singular phenomenon, in which the essential problematic character of the human person emerges promptly. The human subject, in fact, manifests himself in every hermeneutic and planning effort as the one who constantly crosses and goes beyond any given definition of himself. The original dimension of being someone, as long as it remains current, presupposes an intrinsic dynamism that allows the individual to give an answer, always and only penultimate, to the original question: “who am I?” In this article we will try to clarify how the need to think about the experience of subjectivity is being re-proposed for contemporary philosophical anthropology today, especially at the root of the socio-anthropological changes related to technological implementation. We will therefore analyze the essential features of the hermeneutic paradigm of “Post-Culture” proposed by George Steiner, acknowledging in this interpretative theory of our time, not only a critical reading of the present, but rather a valid philosophical thesis for framing culture as a shared original question. For Steiner, to date, identity, on an ethic and hermeneutic level, can be traced back to the sphere of the shared original question, only if it is declined in technical-economic sense, to be introjected in this way – and only in this way – in each individual identity process. “Post-Culture”, then, indicates a mutation, or, an outcome of Western Culture, in which the subject and the product are intersected and merged, on a practical and theoretical level. We will then consider the problem of identity, starting from a phenomenological and theoretical reading of the digital transformation. This hermeneutic effort will allow us to specify the terms of the problem, therefore, to develop an anthropological-philosophical synthesis that represents the first prerequisite for a serious and in-depth political-cultural evaluation.
